Welcome to Seal Rock Farm where we grow
calendula and lavender flowers for

Works Wonders is based on Gabriola, BC and has been crafting all natural Calendula and Lavender Salve from their own flowers since 2004. The flowers are now exclusively grown on Seal Rock Farm on Gabriola Island. Both calendula and lavender are handpicked at their peak and shade dried. The calendula flowers continue to be grown from proprietary heritage seeds that have been lovingly sustained by our family for three generations.

We are planning oodles of other things on the farm. We’ve been keeping bees who have done really well this year. We’re currently building our straw bale house designed by Barb and have set up a solar PV system which we anticipate will supply all our electrical needs.

Flowers

Calendula

stimulates the metabolism of skin cells making it an excellent wound healer. Its antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties offer excellent protection for all skin types from minor infections and may reduce the intensity of cold-sores. As an anti-inflammatory it is highly effective in caring for eczema, psoriasis, minor wounds, burns, bruises, and chafing. Calendula is rich in vitamin A, CoQ-10, and astringents for smoother toned skin. These antioxidants protect skin cells from free-radical formation, and the effects of exposure to the sun.

Lavender

is known mostly for its relaxing fragrance, but its oils are also used in skin care for their antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is useful for treating skin ailments such as fungal infections, wounds, burns, sunburns, eczema, acne, insect bites, stings, minor cuts and irritated skin. Our Lavender is individually selected at its peak and not bulk harvested.

Or you can call us directly when you get off the ferry. Look for the tin can string phone located at the waiting room. It’s a direct string to the farm. You’ll have to shout as we’re saving money to upgrade our string to fiber for greater bandwidth.

update: the string phone is down while we raise sheep to try our luck at communicating through a yarn line…much like this little tale about a string phone. Wasn’t it great being a kid.
